Max is Making Heroes in the Philippines

Our NewThing teams in the Philippines are making a real difference.

Pastor Max Beloso is leading a movement of reproducing churches. As part of his work with Frontline, Max and his team are leading the effort to conduct Catalyst Communities all over the Philippines.

But Max is also a pastor and has his eye on WHY we need to plant new churches. He posted the story of Nanay Iyah, a woman who attends one of the NewThing churches. Pastor Max posted this on Facebook page recently and I want to pass it along.

HERE IS THE STORY OF NANAY IYAH….

She is one of our faithful member of our City Church, I can say she is very poor and old .
But I want to celebrate her heart for the kingdom of God.
She is always early in our celebration Sunday.
She is very active in every gathering.
Lately we launched our project to the Church , and the whole FWC that we will do the fund raising for the training Center for Church planters and for community transformation.
And she is one of the first person who is excited to contribute.
I think she understood the dream or vision for the kingdom of God.
So she got the card for our fund raising strategy, we call it “Bayanihan “ for 1 Million signature, and a week after she is the first one who surrendered the card with 1300 pesos for the building.
And God reminded me about the simple boy who gave his food and make sacrifices for the sake of many people.( you know the story) This boy is a Hero maker.
I do believe that everyone can contribute about this dream if we want , specially that we know it’s for the kingdom of God.
Pls if you have a heart for the Philippines and even South East Asia, help us to make it happen, pray with us and let’s do this together.
Our dream is we can set up a place to train many young people to become church planters in many places.
And we have many young people who wants to become hero maker or church planters in many Barangays or villages.
We need to do this to continue the Jesus mission.
I do believe that in this place we will make many HEROES, and Hero maker for God’s kingdom.

Max is a Hero Maker and church planting is all about making heroes. It’s about Hero Making. This is something we’re deeply passionate about at NewThing. If we can help you do that, let us know.

Dave Ferguson’s new book, Hero Maker is coming out soon. Be sure to grab a copy for you and your teams.

If you want to help Max in the Philippines message him on his Facebook page.

A Leadership Residency Story from Albania

Denis (left) and Daniel (right) embark on a new leadership residency in Albania.

This is Daniel. He’s a NewThing leadership resident in Albania.

My friend Denis is a lead pastor of a new church plant. He doesn’t have a lot of resources and he’s very busy leading his church.

But he does have a passion for the Kingdom and a desire to see the Jesus movement flourish in the Balkans. He understands that to see that happen will require his personal investment in new leaders. That’s why Denis is apprenticing Daniel and will help him plant a new church.

Denis wrote this:

We are enthusiastic to share with you that since this week we start the residency program in our church and network. We will host a young student in our church, he is student which I led to Christ and is moving to live in the Church and be together in life and ministry. I think that this i a good opportunity on the next 12 months to impart all of what God has done in my life in to His life for God’s Mission and Kingdom and His Church.

Wow!

Daniel is the future of the church. We need to identify, equip and send as many Daniel’s as we can find.

I am grateful for the ethos of residency at NewThing. It’s out intentional effort to invest in the next generation of leaders. All of us at every church MUST invest in people like Daniel.

Do me a favor and PRAY for Daniel and Denis as they embark on this journey together.

And if you want to know more about how you can help Denis and Daniel plant a new church, please contact me.

Here are some other posts I wrote about residency.

How Leadership Residency Helps Churches Plant New Churches

Leadership Path or Pipeline? You Need Both!

Called to Plant a Church? This Might Help

I have the privilege to speak to men and woman who are being called to start new things for the Kingdom. I am always inspired after hearing how God is working in their lives; challenging them to move outside of their comfort zone and follow Jesus. It’s because of them that we get new churches.

I’ve learned a few things during these conversations and identified some principles about calling.

One of our strategic partners at NewThing is The Aspen Group. I recently sat down with them to talk about this topic for their Alignment Conference Podcast series.

If you’re thinking of planting a church, it might help.

A Day in the Life of NewThing

Yesterday I was scanning Facebook and came across several events that were happening at NewThing. What struck me is the breadth and scope of what God is doing through our movement. Here’s what I saw:

NewThing Leaders in Indiana

NewThing leaders in Indianapolis met to work on plans to plant new churches all over Indiana. They are dreaming BIG and partnering on a number of levels. This group started with a Catalyst Community.

NewThing Leaders in Kansas City met for their monthly movement / network leader huddle. This is an opportunity for them to check in with each other about their plans to plant churches together. They also take tine to pray for one another. The KC network has been one of our most inspiring networks for a long time. They haven’t let up on the throttle at all.

Dave Ferguson Meeting with German Leaders
Dave Ferguson in Germany

Our fearless leader, Dave Ferguson, is traveling through Germany meeting leaders who want to plant new churches. He’s speaking at conferences and talking about ways NewThing can help fuel movements.

Our Global Catalyst Community team led by Joe Wilson is helping leaders in El Salvador start new reproducing networks. God is truly doing some incredible things through this platform. We have plans to scale this training and help apostolic leaders across the globe reproduce new leaders and churches.

NewThing Catalyst Community in El Salvador

In fact, there was lots more. We’re working with pastors in Chicago to start new networks. Our partners in Michigan are meeting to talk about how they can work together.

All of this really took me by surprise. I mean I am the Global Director of this fantastic organization (just sayin’) and I know all of this stuff is going on. But it doesn’t mean all of this reproducing stuff has gotten old. Nor does it mean that I don’t lose my breath when I actually get to see and hear about all that God is doing.

I’ll admit that sometimes it’s hard to lead an organization like NewThing because I don’t always get to see what God’s up to.

So I want to THANK YOU for all of the leaders all over the world who have said yes to NewThing and are now catalyzing church planting. (And thanks for posting photos so I can see it all! ) Your leadership is why our movement is literally exploding.

Together, we truly are better!

#KINGDOM

May we continue to give God all the praise and glory for all that He’s up to in the world. Amen.

Planting Churches in Nicaragua

Something beautiful happens when church planting and helping kids out of poverty are combined.

So when NewThing was afforded the opportunity to partner with Compassion International to plant new churches in Nicaragua and help kids out of poverty, we jumped at the chance.

Why?

Because these new churches become the lighthouse for a community where not only do people hear the gospel, but it becomes tangible as children are helped out of poverty.

It’s a win – win situation for sure!

I just went on a trip with other NewThing leaders to see visit to the churches we’ve helped start in and around Managua.

I was moved and inspired by what we experienced.

Nicaragua is a beautiful country, full of diversity: oceans, and lakes, volcanoes and cities. Yet, there are areas of desperate poverty.

I am happy to report not only is NewThing helping planting new churches, but hundreds of children have already been sponsored by NewThing churches and now have an opportunity to get out of poverty.

We met with the pastors of the churches we helped to plant. We learned how the Compassion International helps children out of poverty in the name of Jesus.

We toured the new churches and visited with Compassion leaders to better understand their work.

We also visited families benefitting from sponsorship. They explained how the Compassion program was truly helping address their physical needs while the church addresses their spiritual needs. They were grateful to be part of it. While we prayed for each other I knew that this was something God was in and that we were going to plant as many churches as possible for other families.

Equally exciting for our team was the opportunity to meet with pastors and leaders in Nicaragua learn from them. Many of these leaders are dreaming of starting more churches.

Planting a new church in a hurting community and providing a way for children to get out of poverty is a powerful combination. I was humbled and grateful that God was opening this door for NewThing.

This is just the start of our partnership with Compassion. We will be working with Compassion and local leaders to plant new churches and network existing ones together. We are finalizing details on new initiatives so more churches can partner with us. We have BIG plans and we are looking for partners.

Here’s where you come in.  Join us!

We are looking for partners to plant more churches in Nicaragua that will reach new people with the gospel and help more kids out of poverty. This is a great way for your church to do both. Your commitment is to help start a new church and sponsor kids.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Together we will build a strong relationship with both the leaders and the congregation of these churches. This will lead to friendship and more wins for the Kingdom.

Our partnership with Compassion is another example of how NewThing is catalyzing movements all over the world!
